(Many boat insurers offer you a up to a 10 % discount for completing a BSS or SF class)

Navigation Class (NAV)  runs for 13 weeks. This class begins where BSS & SF leave off and

covers  more advanced navigation topics. BSS and/or SF is a  prerequisite for NAV.

At the end of BSS and SF, there is (optional) 5 weeks of instruction in coastal piloting .  These classes introduce you to navigation fundamentals on the coastal  ocean. This knowledge is especially  useful when your electronics fail.

Couples or family members may save money by sharing materials.


PWC's (personal watercraft, i.e. jet skis) in North Carolina may not be operated by anyone under the age of 14, however, PWC's may be

operated by youths between the ages of 14-16 if they have an ID proof of age and a certificate indicating they have completed the BSS

class and been awarded the BSS Certificate.

 

We encourage husband/wife; father / daughter /son teams. Although there is no age prerequisite, we suggest that your children be at

least 12 years old.
